Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: What is a Brazilian Bikini Wax?
A: Usually a small strip or triangle patch of hair is left but everything else front to back is removed.
Q: How long should I grow my hair out?
A: At least 3-4 weeks. The hair grows out in 3 stages. If the shortest hair hasn't grown out enough it won't
come out and the waxing won't be as smooth as you'd like it.
Q: How long is too long for hair to be when getting a Brazilian?
A: If your hair is more than 1" long especially along the "lip" area then it needs to be trimmed down to at
least 3/4-1" otherwise the hair gets gooey in the wax and it can be difficult to get it out.
Q: What is the pain factor for a Brazilian (does it hurt)?
A: Well it really depends on your pain threshold, the worst part usually is between the bellybutton to right
above the pelvic bone, there are more nerve endings there ( think C-Section) and how long it takes to heal.
The "lip" area isn't that bad but the numbing agent Topicaine works like a gem or if you are in the Health
Care Profession it is equivalent to Emla cream used in Hospitals. The Boutique retails the Topicaine for
$16.50 and it's approx. 3 applications and well worth it!
Q: Will I be red, itchy or breakout after a waxing?
A: Again it depends on each individual and how sensitive they are to the procedure. Redness is very
common but goes down within 24 hours, usually no itchiness and a breakout can occur if you have an
allergic reaction to the wax. The Boutique uses a soft cream wax that is either a Lavender or Rosemary
base. Also we use Almond oil to soothe the skin and remove wax residue.
Q: What can I put on my skin to eliminate the rashiness or ingrowns?
A: For a rashy sensitive skin the best things are either cortisone over the counter is fine or A&D
Ointment...yes the baby diaper rash ointment, if it can get rid of a diaper rash you should see how it works
after waxing! For Ingrowns the best thing is either Teatree oil diluted with water twice daily and if they get
really bad the Boutique retails Follique which was specifically created for anyone who gets ingrowns from
either shaving or waxing, and it should be used 24 hours after waxing and used on a daily basis for at
least a week and then as needed.
Q: When should I come back for my next Brazilian?
A: At least 4-6 weeks, that is about the normal time for regrowth if you go past that it will be like having it
done for the first time but if you keep up on the maintenance the hair comes out easier and it's less painful.
The Boutique also offers an incentive program, if you come back within the 4-6 weeks then the cost of the
Brazilian is $10 less!
Q: Should I be aware of what to do or not to do after a Brazilian?
A: No chlorine or tanning for 24 hours since the area is so sensitive it's best not to bring on any irritation.
So for those special getaways or romantic nights it's best to wax 24 hours before hand.
Q: Times to avoid getting a Brazilian?
A: Before your monthly cycle is not the best time since the whole body is sensitive. The best time if you can
work it out is right after your monthly cycle up to 7days before, also caffeine is a stimulant as well so if it's
fresh in your system it can add to the ouch factor, Tylenol is fine to take up to 30 minutes before your
appointment.
Q: How long does it take to have a Brazilian done?
A: For those of us who have been doing this a while it takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on
your hair and how much there is to wax and the coarseness. We allow 30 minutes for all Brazilians just so
you don't feel rushed.
Q: How sanitary is the Brazilian Waxing process?
A: Your Esthetician will use multiple sticks for waxing that area, once the hair near the "lip" area is being
waxed the stick should only be used one time then thrown away, also if any blood comes to the surface
which can happen with coarser hair then the stick should also be thrown away. Gloves should be worn at
all times and the tweezers should come out of a sterilizing tray full of alcohol or an airtight container of
implements that have already been sanitized.
* You should never be afraid to ask your Esthetician about sanitary procedures. The Waxing Boutique
prides itself on keep a clean, safe environment for our clients.
